THE EVER INCREASING SHORTAGE OF COTTON AND HOW IT IS AFFECTING THE APPAREL BUSINESS.

In summer 2010, the headlines began predicting the impending rise in cotton prices.
By fall, the reality was worse than expected:
• “Cotton Shortage = Pricey T-Shirts And Jeans” (CNN/Money, September 9, 2010)
• “Flashback to 1870 as Cotton Hits Peak” (The Wall Street Journal, October 15, 2010)
• “Gap, Wal-Mart Clothing Costs Rise on ‘Terrifying’ Cotton Prices” (Bloomberg Business Week, November 15, 2010)

Major t-shirt mills that support our industry—Anvil, Fruit of the Loom, Gildan, Hanes and Jerzees, for example—
raised prices twice in 2010, approximately five percent each time, and another 7% increase in the first 2 weeks of 2011.

No one likes price increases, but in the case of cotton, apparel will continue to maintain a very strong position
as a preferred means of branding and advertising.
People love promotional apparel, and this is not going away any time soon. I personally have promotional t-shirts
in my closet that are over five years old, and I think that’s fairly typical. That speaks volumes to the power of
advertising apparel.

We here at AdStuff continuously research our best options for apparel suppliers and pledge to create great design,
provide excellent service and overall value for all of our clients.

GREEN FACTS – Did You Know???…..

• It will take 700 years before plastic bottles in landfills start to decompose.
• Every recycled polyester garment we make DIVERTS approximately 10 PET
bottles FROM the landfill.
• The biggest single contributor to smog pollution is excessive electricity
consumption.
• CFL bulbs use 65-75% less energy than a standard incandescent bulb
and last up to 10 times LONGER.
• If every home replaced 5 of their most frequently used light fixtures with
energy efficient light bulbs, we would prevent the greenhouse gases
equivalent to the emissions from nearly 10 million cars.
• Eco-friendly fabrics are produced using LESS water and ELIMINATE tons
of harmful air emissions which contribute to acid rain, global warming
and smog.

Do You Know Where Your Paper Comes From?

Ad Stuff offers FSC Certified paper products. FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)
is an independent international organization established to promote responsible
management of the world’s forests through standards setting, certification and
labeling of well-managed forest products. The FSC is an international not-for-profit
membership-based organization that brings people together to find solutions to the
problems created by bad forestry practices and to reward good forest management.
In addition, FSC prohibits the conversion of forests and other natural habitat.
The FSC also prohibits the use of highly hazardous pesticides and prohibits the
cultivation of genetically modified trees (GMO’s).

Ask about FSC certified products – because the world’s forests matter to all of us.

Not All USB Drives are Created Equal

Pingline is one of Ad Stuff’s major suppliers of USB drives. Pingline only uses
Tier 1 chips in all of their drives. Tier 1 means that the chips are made by a major, reputable
manufacturer. Currently, these are only Samsung and Hynix. Tier 1 chips are not refurbished
or used and only of the highest quality. Lower Tier chips have a much lower success rate and
are much more likely to fail.

Currently, there are a variety of case styles available, including the newest drive, made
from recycled paper pulp.

CPSIA Leglislation is Effective August 14th

Beginning Aug. 14th, 2009, all applicable children’s products manufactured on or after this date are required by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) to bear a tracking label that enables users to determine the origin and production date of a given product, along with other required information.

Ad Stuff’s 7th Annual Vendor Fair

Ad Stuff’s own 7th Annual Vendor Fair, held earlier this season at Banchetti’s Grove, was a great success. The fair’s featured vendors were Primeline, Starline, Keystoneline, Acrobag, Ash City, Twin Line, Cutter & Buck, Norwood, Pinnacle Designs and Sanmar. Many new products included eco-friendly and green products.

Ad Stuff’s manufacturer representative, Starline, has initiated a “Go Green” program. Products that qualify as Starline “eco-friendly” must be recycled, sustainable, non-polluting or organic. Those products that meet one or more of these criteria display a “Go Green” logo. Starline also practices “carbon free shipping.”

Acrobag featured a handbag that is made of natural jute material.
There are also many new wearables which are being produced of natural materials or recycled materials, such as coconut shells and recycled plastics.

Ad Stuff is now offering many new green products, as always customized to your needs and with quality in mind.
